Biking Sacajawea

More goats up there, and the 50 feet of unridable trail is down to 10, although there is another 10 or so on the bottom section we didn't ride too. Pretty fun downhill all and all, and the climb is tough but not so bad once you give up on pedaling and push your bike. Definately going back

The Shafthouse Trail

It is in good shape, but could use some more bike traffic.

Here's one you might have seen already, first time we have drug bikes up to Sacajawea. There was about 20 feet on the way down we didn't ride, gonna have to get back up there again with some new tires and try it again. We rode down Corbly Gulch, which was basically a contest of who could ride the most rocks without endoing.

Baldy!

Went biking in a cloud on Mount Baldy yesterday. It's snowing up there hard now, actually it's snowing pretty hard in town now too. Welcome to June in Bozeman.

Saddle Peak

Finally went and did Saddle again now that the avalanche conditions have stabilized somewhat. As usual, it was a really windy and fun climb/descent.

These next couple are from a camping trip to the Lionhead area by West Yellowstone and Ennis.

Sheep Lake in the Lionhead


There is a threat that this trail will be closed to bikes. That would not be cool. You can write a letter here to try and prevent that. I think Sheep Creek is one of the best backcountry trails I've ridden in Montana, and I've ridden a few. Some more info on the closure here and here.


And here's one of the log bridges from that trail. This one was scary to ride because you had to turn onto it and loft your wheels about 8". The pressure was on for Aaron and he didn't even flinch.

I'm a winner!

I won first prize in the Action category of the first annual Outside Bozeman photo contest with a photo of Marshall on Mount Baldy just outside Bozeman (ha ha). They featured my photo in their latest issue along with the other winners. I get some kind of prize awarded to me at a ceremony or something at the end of the month, but they don't know what or when yet. Sweet.

North Bridgers

Here's a couple pics from a snowmobile rescue/snowboard morning trip Patrick and I did a week or so ago. In typical Bozeman ski-scene fashion we ran into my friend Bob the skier on top of the line we wanted to ski.

North Bridgers

It was good. Miraculously the sun was out for most of the day. The vast majority of my North Bridger time has been spent inside a cloud so it was great to see what was going on. Conditions allowed us to snowboard a particularly prominent face that has been tempting me for several years. On top of that the snow was excellent powder with a somewhat solid base and provided excellent riding.

This picture is from last Wednesday south of Bridger Bowl. Really light, fluffy snow that was waist deep in a lot of places on top of lots of rocks. Dangerous for equipment.

Skiing

I never managed to post these. Marshall and I went skiing in the north Bridgers last Wednesday on my birthday. We both work at the university where apparently it's ok to just not show up all day if you don't want to. It was a really nice day and the skiing was surprisingly good. We skied "the Great One" which is a north facing and very well shaded chute that is well known around here because it will hold snow well into summer. Or, in our case, will hold snow that fell early in the fall.
