Mining

We did some exploring in the Tobacco roots last weekend in search of good bike trails. We found some good ones and bad ones, but the most interesting things up there where the old mine ruins. Here are a few pics from one of them.

We lived in VC for a year before returning to BZN and I've done some exploring over there.

Best rides in Pony: out-n-back to Hollowtop, or loop over to Albro Lake and take the (illegal to bikes) downhill back to parking lot, you'll return on the uphill side of the trailhead parking lot (not the creekside which you climbed)

MY FAVORITE ride over there is a shuttle (take California Creek road, outside Laurin -- a little bit past VC -- and drive to where the road gets rough (there's an old mining claim / outhouse where I usually park / get dropped off) ride to the top (optional hike to Ramshorn Mtn and overlook S. Meadow Creek Lake), before the trail to Ramshorn there's a slightly hidden SINGLETRACK (uphill to right as you're climbing) which you take a long ways down (watch out for the waterbars) until you get to a logging road (make a left) ride the road for a mile or two, then you'll see logged stand of trees uphill to right (if you go too far road ends) and if you look around up in those trees you'll find a double-track downhill which takes you all the way back to Granite Creek Rd. just outside Nevada City.

I've been emailing Greg B. about this route and am still hoping to ride it this fall...
